Cutaneous Lupus
I have Cutaneous Lupus, which has caused me to lose 99% of my hair. I am dependent on wigs and scarfs for the rest of my life. I believe this is the hardest part of the disease for me. I can deal with the occassional physical symptoms, but the hair loss is sometimes devastating to me emotionally. I wish I could walk around bald, but I cannot because my scalp is scarred. My head is sensitive to the sun, luckily my doctor just informed me that I should put sunscreen on my head...he said the pain I used to feel was like having a 2nd degree burn on my head everytime I was exposed to the sun. I sometimes do not like to walk around my family with my head uncovered (I only do this around my husband and kids). Although, it is only at these times, I can provide relief to my scalp...so I do so. It is early and my head is "breathing" as we speak...it is only now that I feel free...alone while everyone sleeps... and then for the rest of the day...I will become dependent once again, to a scarf, a wig or whatever cover I can find to hide the evidence of my disease.
